Gweni Llwyd is an artist who works across tactile and digital realms - predominately through moving-image, drawing, and installation. Gweni’s works playfully weave together personal, collective and more-than-human experiences, drawing attention to how all life is part of a messy, shared metabolism.
Recent projects, residencies, commissions, and exhibitions include: RIB Summer Lab Residency Rotterdam (2024); SWAY Barry (2024); Colomendy Residency, Cardiff (2024); Elan Links Residency (2023); Partial View, MAMA, Rotterdam (2023); Traces of a Cathode, s1 artspace, Sheffield (2023); I Must Be Living Twice, European Cultural Centre at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022); One Day Home, W139, Amsterdam (2022); Silicon Retina, Green Man Festival (2021); Jerwood UNITE, g39 (2021); VRAL Milan Machinima Festival, Milan (2021); AutoSave presents: Rhizodome, online (2021); Ankle Tap, NDCW & Pontio, Bangor (2020); Rat Trap x g39, Cardiff (2020); V&A Late: Art Schools, V&A, London (2019).
Gweni has received multiple fellowships, prizes and awards including the National Eisteddfod of Wales Young Artist Scholarship (2018); Arts Council of Wales Brian Ross Memorial Award (2018); Artists Benevolent Fund Step Change Fellowship (2017-2018); NOVA Cymru Young Artist Prize (2017); Helen Gregory Fine Art Purchase Prize (2017); Dulcie Mayne Stephens Memorial Trust Award in Fine Art (2016). Gweni has a BA in Fine Art from Cardiff School of Art and Design (2014-2017).
Gweni currently works as Associate Lecturer in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art and Design and as a freelance creative practitioner and facilitator. Previous clients and collaborators include Artes Mundi, Peak Cymru, Ffiwsar, Criw Celf, Wales Millennium Centre.
